Road crash kills one in Noakhali

An auto rickshaw driver was killed and four others injured as the auto rickshaw hit a roadside electric pole in front of Kabirhat upazila Livestock office yesterday morning.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Police sources said the accident occurred when the CNG auto rickshaw hit the pole on the Sonapur-Kabirhat road as its driver lost control over the vehicle, leaving the driver dead on the spot and four other passengers injured.
The injured were sent to the upazila health complex.
2 get life term for raping Kushtia schoolgirl

A court in Kushtia yesterday sentenced two men to life term imprisonment for raping a schoolgirl in Kumarkhali upazila in 2015.
The court also fined the convicts--Nazmul, 30, and Azam alias Sagar, 30, of Nandalalpur village in the same upazila, Tk 20,000.
According to the prosecution, the convicts abducted a minor girl from Alauddinnagar area in the upazila while she was going to take tuition by an auto-rickshaw on August 18, 2015.
The duo took the girl to a flat in the district town and raped her.
Later, the victim filed a case with Kumarkhali Police Station against the duo. Police submitted charge sheet against them after investigation.
After examining witnesses and documents, Judge Mahmudul Haque of the Kushtia Additional District and Sessions Judge court-1 handed down the verdict yesterday.
Boy drowns in Padma River

A child drowned in the Padma River in Harma Ferrighat area of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was Shihab Ali, 7, of Chardebinagar Hefaj Uddin Biswaser Tola village in the same upazila.
Station officer of Rajshahi Fire Service Office Farid Uddin and a ward member of Debinagar UP Nurul Islam said Shihab came to the house of his maternal grandmother in the area and he fell into the river while playing in a boat at around 4 pm.
Being informed, a rescue team from Rajshahi Fire Service came to the spot and started rescue operation at around 6 pm and recovered the dead body at around 7-30 pm, the sources added.
