Man stabbed to death

A young man was stabbed to death by rivals at Subidbazar in Sylhet on Saturday midnight. The deceased was identified as Shimul Deb, 32, son of Samaresh Deb, a resident of Fazil Chist in Subidbazar. Quoting neighbours, Mosharraf Hossian, officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station, said two groups of people locked into a clash in front of a superstore in Subidbazar area in the evening. Shimul came out of home at night after getting a call. Later, some miscreants hacked him indiscriminately in Nurani Residential area of Subidbazar, leaving him dead on the spot. The murder took place in a sequel to clash, locals claimed. On information, police recovered the body around 12am, said the OC, adding that drives are on to arrest the killers.

20 ‘jhut’ godowns gutted

At least 20 jhut godowns and several wood shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Konabari of Gazipur on Sunday morning. Akhtaruzzaman, assistant director of Gazipur Fire Station, said the fire erupted at a jhut warehouse around 8am and it engulfed the adjacent 20 jhut warehouses soon. On information, five units of firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the flame at 10.45am. However, the extent of losses caused by the fire is yet to be ascertained, the official added.

Man injured in wall collapse

A rickshaw puller was injured as a wall of an old building, which was being demolished, collapsed on a street in Lalbahgh area in the capital on Saturday night. Injured Sabuj Mia, 55, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment, Md Mahfuz, station officer Fire Service and Civil Defense Control room, told UNB. The wall of the building collapsed on a yellow cab which was standing on Harnath Ghosh Road near Royal Hotel at 10:13pm, he added. On information, four units of fire fighters rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. The building was being torn down when parts of the wall collapsed on the street, witnesses said.

2 journos hurt in road crash

Three people, including two journalists of Jamuna Television were injured yesterday when an oil laden truck collided with the car carrying them on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway at Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. They were going to Cox’s Bazar district for covering news of Rohingya refugees. The injured were identified as Hossain Ahmed Ziad, Staff Reporter, Nasirul Alam, Cameraperson at Jamuna Television of Chittagong Bureau office, and car driver Mintu Miah. The injured were first taken to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for better treatment, added the OC. The oil laden truck was detained, said the OC.
