Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), has expressed his disagreement with a portion of a news report titled ‘Politics heading for confrontation’ published in the front page of The Independent on Saturday. A highlighted box in the news report quoted Dr. Iftekharuzzaman as saying “I believe that a 1/11-like situation will not be created again. But something might happen.’’ In a rejoinder yesterday, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman said that he did not utter the word 1/11, nor did he say anything close to “something might happen.” He actually said: “In my view, a ‘low intensity’ conflict is likely to continue as a part of political activism of both sides. However, I don’t see any possibility of recurrence of the kind of violence that preceded the 2014 election.”
