3 madrasa students ‘missing’
Habiganj: Three students of Shamsul Ulum Nurania Hafizia Madrasa in Mirpur area of Bahubal upazila in the district reportedly went missing on Friday noon, reports UNB.
The missing were identified as Tanveer Ahmed, son of Ayub Ali of Hasargaon village in Chunarughat upazila, Junaed Ahmed, son of Moshahid Mia of Shyampur village in Shayestaganj upazila and Sharif Uddin, son of Rashid Mia of Kashimnagar village in Barlekha upazila.
All of them are students of Hifz department of the Madrasa, said Shamsul Alam, founder of the madrasa.
“The trio went for their Magrib prayers on Friday evening and did not come back.”
However, the madrasa authorities and the family members of the missing students did not manage to trace them till filing of this report on Saturday night.
On information, a team of police visited the madrasa, said Mofizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bahubal Police Station.
Police will take further steps after filing of a general diary in this regard, the OC added.
Man held with arms, ammo

Members of Border guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an alleged arms peddlerwith a pistol, two magazines and six rounds of bullet from a wheat field at Kiranganj frontier area under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district yesterday afternoon.
The arrestee was identified as Md Masudur Rahman, 40, of Kaliganj village in Shibganj upazila of the district.
BGB sources said acting on secret information, a patrol team of BGB fromKiranganj border out post raided the area at around 12:40pm and arrested Masudur Rahman with the arms and ammunition.
Later, he was handed over to the police of Shibganj police station with a case.
Jatka Conservation Week begins in Sadar upazila
GAIBANDHA: Jatka Conservation Week-2018 began in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday with a call to ensure the sustainable production of national fish Hilsha, reports BSS.
This year’s theme of the week is “we will not catch jatka: fishermen remain alive, country smiles”.
Marking the week, Sadar upazila administration and upazila fisheries office chalked out the elaborate programmes till March 2.
On Saturday, a grand rally led by whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini was brought out from the upazila parishad premises and ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the district town. Later, a discussion meeting was also held at the auditorium of upazila parishad with UNO Rafiqul Islam in the chair.
Whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed the meeting as the chief guest and district fisheries officer (DFO) Abdud Dayan Dulu and organizing secretary of district Awami League Mridul Mostafi Jhantu were present as special guests. The whip said Hilsha fish had been playing remarkable role in enriching our national culture, poverty alleviation, foreign exchange earnings, and fulfilling the protein demand of the people since long.
She urged all to come forward with positive attitude to preserve the jatka for helping boost production of Hilsha fish in the rivers of the country. The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had been implementing welfare, scientific and social safety net programmes to ensure sustainable production of the national fish, she added.
Laptops distributed among primary schools in Narsingdi
NARSINGDI: A total of 138 laptops were distributed among 138 primary schools in Sadar upazila on Saturday, reports BSS.
State Minister for Water Resources Lt Colonel (Retd) Nazrul Islam Hiro (Birpratik) MP distributed the laptops at a simple function at the upazila parishad premises as chief guest.
The state minister also distributed 68 bundles CI sheet (corrugated tin) and Taka 2,04,000 among 35 destitute families. Each of the families in 14 unions and two pourashavas of the upazila received two bundles of tin and Taka 6,000.
Chairman of the Zila Parishad and General Secretary of the district Awami League Abdul Motin Bhuiyan, deputy commissioner Dr. Shubash Chandra Biswas, project officer Abul Kalam Azad, Sadar upazila primary education officer Mir Mohammad Jahidul Kabir Tohin and local elite were present at the distribution function.
