‘Govt works for improving women’s livelihood condition’

RAJSHAHI: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said the present government has been working relentlessly for improving living and livelihood condition of the women, reports BSS.

He said the government with dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has arranged employment for the rural distressed and marginalized women through various need-based projects for making them self-reliant.

The state minister made this observation while distributing bank cheques and certificates among the women beneficiaries of Rural Employment and Road Maintenance Project at Charghat Upazila Parishad Hall Room in the district yesterday as chief guest.

On the occasion, bank cheques worth Taka 2.34 lakh and certificates were distributed among 59 distressed women workers.

With Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashraful Islam in the chair, LGED Executive Engineer Golam Mostofa, Senior Engineer Monsur Rahman, Upazila Engineer Mojahar Ali Pramanik and UP Chairmen Hasanuzzaman Madhu, Md Moniruzzaman and Mozammel Haque also spoke.

Shahriar Alam, MP, said Bangladesh has attained remarkable success in various development indicators.

He said the country is progressing fast in every sector, especially in ICT, food production, power generation and distribution, education, women empowerment, foreign remittance earning, GDP and per capita income.

Shahriar Alam said: “We’ve already stepped into upper stairs as Bangladesh has been declared a lower middle-income country from the lower-income nation”. “Bangladesh doesn’t want to stay at the lower ladder... it wants to climb to the peak and we will do whatever necessary for that.”

Becoming a lower middle income country is certainly something to cheer about. It makes us firmly believe that we will soon elevate to the status of middle income country, he added.

Mentioning that Bangladesh was moving ahead on all fronts, he renewed his government’s vow to turn the country into a peaceful abode in South Asia.
