A two-day international conference would be held in the capital from October 27 aiming at showcasing the Bangladesh Buddhist heritage to the foreigners for further flourishing overall tourism, reports BSS. Participants from 13 countries will join the conference titled ‘National Buddhist Workshop and International Buddhist Circuit Conference’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC), he said.
The minister said the government has undertaken various initiatives to further flourish the country’s tourism sector, adding, “The tourism sector is flourishing across the country under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
Menon paid rich tribute to the greatest Bangalee of all times Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members, who were brutally killed on August 15, 1975. He said his ministry has undertaken an initiative to hold the conference in collaboration with the United Nations World Tourism organisation (UNWTO).
Menon said the civil aviation and tourism ministry would uphold the centuries-old Buddhist heritage in Bangladesh to the people of the participating countries.
He said UNWTO secretary general Taleb Rifai along with officials from China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Bhutan, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka will attend the conference.
