12 sued for defalcating

Defalcation of about Tk14 crores in purchase of materials for Satkhira Medical College Hospital has been detected by Anti Corruption Commission [ACC].  The ACC has filed two cases against 12 people on charge of misappropriating Tk 13.70 crores in the name of purchasing different medical equipment and chemicals for Satkhira Medical College Hospital during 2013-2014 fiscal year.
 The accused are  Md Zaheruddin, proprietor of Bengal Scientific and Surgical Company,  his father Abdus Sattar Proprietor of Mercantile Trade International in Dhaka Segunbagicha, former principal and director of Satkhira Medical College Hospital Dr S. Z Atiq, Satkhira Sadar Hospital senior consultants Ruhul Quddus and AKM Jahangir Alam, junior consultants Narayan Prasad Sarnyal and Rahima Khatun, Residential  Medical Officer Maruf Hasan, Assistant Repairer of a Dhaka-based medical equipment maintenance workshop Habibur Rahman, Social Services Officer of Satkhira Social Services Department Md Wahiduzzaman, Senior Health Education Officer of Satkhira Civil Surgeon office AKM Sohrab Hasan, Officer of Satkhira Public Works Sub-Division  Harunur Rashid and  former deputy secretary of the Health Ministry Abdul Malek.
Satkhira Sadar police recorded the cases on August 27 after receiving a document signed by ACC Deputy Director Amirul Islam. The 12 men have been charged for working collusively to draw up a list of equipment to be bought for Satkhira Medical College Hospital at inflated prices, thus bilking Tk 7.51 crores, and Tk6.20 crores said Emdadul Haque Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar police station.
