Speakers at a seminar here on Saturday underlined the need for creating mass awareness to protect natural water bodies for maintaining environmental and ecological balance, reports BSS from Netrakona. Jonoudyag Netrakona, a local voluntary organization, organized the seminar titled ‘Preservation and Development of Natural Water Bodies for Protecting Biodiversity and Keeping Environmental Balance’ at the local press club.
The speakers emphasized the necessity of preservation of all the natural water bodies including rivers, canals, beels and haors and keeping those free from grabbing and polluting for maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity.
The speakers also suggested undertaking concerted efforts of the people side by side with vigilance of land officials to save the water bodies. Deputy Commissioner Dr Torun Kanti Shikder addressed the seminar as the chief guest while prominent social worker Dr M A Hamid was in the chair. The keynote paper of the seminar was presented by senior journalist Shamolendu Paul.
It was addressed, among others, by president of Netrakona District Chamber of Commerce and Industries Abdul Wahed, president of Udichi Shilpi Gosthi Netrakona district unit Muzammel Haque Bacchu, office secretary of Awami League Netrakona district unit Mazharul Islam, headmaster of Netrakona Unmesh High School Arifur Rahman and journalist Goutam Babul.
