A one-lakh seated stadium to be built in Coxs Bazar

Sports Reporter

A stadium, containing 1 lakh seat, will be built in Cox’s Bazar, the longest sea beach of the world. The stadium will be used for both football and cricket, said Zahid Ahsan Russel, the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on youth and sports.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered us to build a stadium, containing at least 1 lakh seat in Cox’s Bazar,” he told the reporters recently.
In world cricket, there is only one stadium in the world which is in Melbourne, Australia. That stadium also is made for multi-purpose and drop-in pitch is used there for cricket. For only football, there are few stadiums which could contain at least 1 lakh spectators simultaneously—in North Korea and some stadiums in USA.
Now Bangladesh are the on the way to inscribe their name in building a large stadium. Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) is the largest stadium in the country at the moment as it could hold 36,000 spectators while Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium has 26,000 seats. Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS), also in Cox’s Bazar is likely to accommodate 1 lakh spectator. The stadium is yet to be completed. This stadium was built for the 2014 World Twenty20. Some matches of the women were held there.
“We have a stadium in Cox’s Bazar which is yet to be built. This stadium is building for only cricket. But our prime minister ordered us to build a stadium for cricket and football. 2016 year is announced as the ‘Parjatan Year’. To attract the tourists, basically initiative is taken to build a beautiful stadium,” Russel said.
He informed that they have already seen some places but yet to choose any of them.
“We want such a place where we can build a BKSP and stadium. A BSKP is in Chittagong but not that big. If a BKSP is set in Cox’s Bazar, this area’s people could involve in game more. We have also seen a place adjacent to
cantonment in Ramu. There is a tea garden and hills, beautiful for a stadium. We want to consider this place. A team led by a officer of the ministry will observe the place. Let’s see what happened.”
“Since two games will be held simultaneously and will be a larger stadium, the place should have been bigger.”
