Jubair Hossain Likhon stressed on bringing up accuracy in his bowling in order to be more effective leg-spinner. Leg-spin is considered as a difficult art which needed immense practice and concentration to thrive in the age of power-hitting.
In his brief career, spanning only 10-month, Likhon had already shown his mettle but lacked accuracy. After his performance against India, team’s premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan said, the ball which Likhon landed in the right spot, terrorised the Indian batsmen to great degree and everyone knows how good the Indian batsmen are against the spin.
Likhon so far claimed 16 wickets with the best bowling figure of 5-96 against Zimbabwe in his third Test. Thereafter, he played another three Tests against India and South Africa and picked up 2-113 against India and 3-53 against South Africa.
Ahead of the upcoming home series against Australia, Likhon toiled hard pouring his sweat by bowling practice at nets. He regularly does it and works on variation including turn, flipper, bouncer and google in his bowling practice.
“I’m working on those areas where I had lacking in the last few games. Actually it’s tough for a leg-spinner to bowl repeatedly in the same place. I’m trying to do the same thing in my practice session. I’m mainly working on to bring the accuracy of my bowling,” he said.
“I’m working on my bowling accuracy. Bowling errors will be reduced if I can achieve the accuracy in bowling.”
Likhon said that he is gradually improving the physical and technical aspect of his bowling action to be effective spinner.
“It’s a matter of practice to be a good leg-spinner. It is also a matter of time-consuming. I’m trying to improve myself day by day to become an effective leg-spinner. I’m doing hard work technically and physically on regular basis,” the 20-year-old spinner said.
He cited Australian
spin-wizard Shane Warne and South African Imran Tahir as his idol from the start of his cricket career and said that he follows them and tries to learn watching the video of their bowling.
“I follow Shane Warne since the start of my playing career. He had accuracy. He was a big turner of the ball. Actually he had bowling variation. I still watch his bowling video. I want to bowl like him so that people keep me in their mind,” he revealed. “Warne retired from cricket. So, I’m following Imran Tahir now. I like his bowling very much,” he added.
Jamalpur-born spinner said that he will try to do less mistake whenever he gets chance to perform.
“As a player my work is to play. I will try to give my all-out effort to show my best. I’ll try to do less mistakes as possible as I could if I get chance,” he vowed.
