Everything done to ensure safe journey of homebound people

UNB

Home Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said special security measures will be in place across the country ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to ensure the smooth journey of the homebound people, reports UNB.
“All necessary arrangements will be taken so that the homebound people can reach their home safely and celebrate Eid smoothly and peacefully,” he said.
The minister was talking to reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting on the law and order and security measures ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Asaduzzaman said police, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and highway police will work in a concerted way to ensure smooth and peaceful journey of people during Eid holidays.
River police and Coast Guard members will keep a strong vigil on river
routes to prevent accidents and overloading of passengers on launches, he said.
The minister also said watchtowers will be set up at 14 strategic points on highways where there are tailbacks as part of the security measures to check crime amid traffic jam.
He said there will be special security measures in cattle markets across the country. “Fake currency detecting machines will be used to control the circulation of fake notes in the cattle markets,” he said.
Lessees would have to set up closed-circuit cameras (CC TVs) in cattle markets with their own initiatives to ensure security, the minister said.
The meeting also directed Border Guard Bangladesh to remain alert so that rawhide of sacrificed animals during Eid are not smuggled out of the country.
To avoid heavy pressure of vehicles on highways ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, garment workers will go on Eid holidays in phases, he said.
A special meeting will be held among the Home Affairs Ministry, BGMEA and BKMEA in this regard.
Senior Secretary to the Home Affairs Ministry Dr Mozammel Haque Khan, acting Inspector General of Police Javed Patwary, Rab Director General Benazir Ahmed, and the DGs of BGB and Bangladesh Coast Guard were present at the meeting.
