A suspected smuggler was killed during a gunfight, between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members and smugglers, in Daulatpur Border area in Benapole on early morning yesterday. The deceased was identified as Ibrahim Hossain, 24, son of Yakub Hossain-a resident of Khoridanga village in Benapole. Being tipped off that smugglers were penetrating with huge smuggled goods, a BGB team conducted a drive at the Daulotpur border area, said Lt Col Tariqul Hakim, commanding officer, 21 BGB Battalion. The smugglers opened fire sensing BGB presence that prompted them to retaliate that left Ibrahim dead on the spot.
