Apart from retaining the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings for batsmen following a profitable series against South Africa, Virat Kohli became only the second batsman after AB de Villiers to cross the 900-point mark simultaneously in both Tests and ODIs and the fifth overall, in the latest rankings for the 50-over format announced by the ICC on Tuesday, reports Cricbuzz.

Kohli, who began the six-match series with 876 rating points, finished it with 909 - thus becoming the first Indian batsman to cross 900 rating points in ODIs as he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's career high of 887. The Indian captain, who scored 558 runs in India's 5-1 series victory, is now seventh on the list of all-time rankings as he overtook Brian Lara. He is now one short of Javed Miandad at No. 6 while he needs 26 more points to equal Viv Richards's highest rating points of 935.

There were a few changes in the rankings for bowlers as Jasprit Bumrah and Rashid Khan's rapid strides in the 50-over format helped them jointly top the list. Imran Tahir, who was ranked No. 1 before the South Africa-India series, has moved down to five while Trent Boult slipped down one spot to No. 3.

Bumrah's eight wickets in the series helped him move up two spots but the biggest gainer was Afghanistan's Rashid, who climbed to the top spot after jumping eight positions following a rich haul of 16 wickets in the five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. Bumrah and Rashid, who had 728 and 649 rating points before their respective series, now have 787 points, with the latter becoming the youngest to top the bowler rankings at the age of 19.

India's 5-1 result helped them retain their top ODI ranking and extend their rating points to 123, creating a six-point advantage over the second-ranked South Africa. Meanwhile, apart from Kohli, there were other Indians who were big gainers in the player rankings too. Shikhar Dhawan entered the top ten, moving up four spots on the back of 323 runs against South Africa. Kuldeep Yadav (17 wickets) moved up 47 positions to be ranked No. 15 while Yuzvedra Chahal (16 wickets) moved up 21 positions to occupy the eighth spot. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, dropped down to No. 6 after an average series barring a hundred in the fifth ODI.

Afghanistan, who secured a 4-1 victory against Zimbabwe, overtook them in the ICC ODI rankings for teams as they gained one position to be ranked No. 10.
