Customs Intelligence and Directorate yesterday lodged a case over the seizure of the sodium salt (monosodium glutamate) in Chittagong Port. mA company named Helal & Brothers imported 10 containers of the salt from Taiwan under false declaration. Mohammad Zakir Hossain, deputy director of Customs Intelligence and Directorate of Chittagong said, “After detained the containers, we have sent the sample to test. In the test the fraudulence was proved.” Acting on tip-off members of Customs Intelligence and Directorate detained the containers on August 24, 2015. “The goods which were brought under false declaration were discharging from the port by a C&F agent Tivly Enterprise,” added Zakir. The worth of the imported consignment is about Tk1.5 crore. The company declared to bring large packet of monosodium glutamate under 10 per cent tax; however, they brought packed monosodium glutamate which tax is 25 per cent. To evade 15 per cent tax they gave the false declaration said, Customs Intelligence and Directorate sources.
