A group of muggers shot three people and snatched around Tk 50 lakh at Mithachara Bazar in Mirsharai upazila of Chittagong yesterday.
The victims injured in the shooting were identified as Emran Uddin, 40, owner of Gangchil Filing Station, Jahangir Alam, 45, manager and Barun Chandra, 42, driver of the station. They were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
The mugging incident took place at around 11:00am near the Pubali Bank at Mithachara Bazar, said Imtiaz Uddin Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Mirsharai Police Station.
A group of armed robbers attacked the three as they were entering a bank to deposit the money. The gang members shot them and snatched a bag full of money before fleeing from the scene, added the OC.
“We were carrying money from the filling station, around Tk 1 crore in two sacks, to deposit in the bank. When we reached near the bank, a group of people wearing masks attacked us. They snatched a sack containing about Tk 50 lakh,” said Shankar Chandra Nath, an eyewitness and the accountant of the filling station.
