Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury yesterday urged the authorities concerned to increase the production of honey to meet the demand by inventing new species of bees through research, reports BSS.
“Bring in new species of bees for increasing the production of honey to meet the demand...I urge you to do research for inventing new species of bees able to cope with our environment and climate,” she said, speaking at the inaugural function of a honey fair at the AKM Giasuddin Milki auditorium in city’s Farmgate.
Agriculture Ministry organized the two-day ‘National Honey Fair-2018’.
Ministry’s Senior Secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullha and former state minister AFM Fakhrul Islam, among others, addressed the inaugural function with Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Director General Mohammad Mohasin in the chair.
DAE Director (Horticulture Wing) Mizanur Rahman delivered the welcome address while Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University Professor Shakhawat Hossain and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Mowchak Unnayan Project Director Khandaker Alimuzzaman presented keynote papers.
Matia said the present government is giving importance to honey production and the private sector is also playing a vital role to produce honey.
