Digital system has reduced corruption, says Mosharraf

FARIDPUR: Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday said the introduction of digital system has significantly reduced corruptions in different public services, reports BSS.

“As part of the massive digitization campaign, the government has introduced ICT-based public services to supplement the efforts of combating corruption from the society,” he told a laptop distribution programme for primary teachers here. The programme organized by Sadar Upazila administration was held at the minister’s Badarpur residence in Faridpur town.

20 gold bars seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 20 pieces of gold bars from Dhannokhola bordering area  yesterday.

Acting on secret information that gold bars will be smuggled into India, a BGB patrol team raided the area, said Lt Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB battalion-49. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, smugglers fled the scene leaving the packet of gold bars, he said.

None was arrested in this connection and the gold bars were deposited to Benapole Custom House, he added.

Two ‘arms peddlers’ arrested

 Two alleged arms peddlers were held with two foreign pistols, three magazines, 10 bullets and five shooter guns in two separate drives by police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)in the district on Thursday.

Police and RAB sources said the arrested persons are Sohag, 24, of Ajmatpur Mondoltola village in Shibganj upazila and Md Solaiman Ali, 52, of Kolabari Kansat village in the same upazila. Acting on secret information, a contingent of the police raided a mango orchard at Ajmatpur Mondoltola village around 1-45 pm and arrested Sohag with five shooter guns. On the other hand, a team of the RAB raided a separate mango orchard at Kolabari village around 10-30 pm and arrested Solaiman with two pistols, three magazines and 10 bullets.

Urs of Shah Sufi Faridpuri begins today

The ‘Urs Sharif’of Hazrat Shah Sufi Khawza Faridpuri begins at Biswa Zaker Manzil here today.

A large number of devotees are expected to attend the four-day Urs.  Hundreds of volunteers are working to hold the Urs peacefully. Law enforcers have also been deployed here on the occasion, says a press release. Hundreds of make-shift shops have been set up displaying various food items, handicrafts, kitchen-ware, pottery, costumes, mattresses and textile.

The four-day urs will come to an end on February 20 with the Akheri Munazat seeking divine blessing for peace and prosperity for the country and the Muslim Ummah.
