Sri Lanka eye to end tour ending T20 series on happy note: Tharanga

Bolstered by the emphatic successes in the Tri-nation (one-day) series along with the subsequent Test series, Sri Lanka this time keep their eyes on the next T20 International series what has been echoed from Upul Tharanga.

For this, they have honed their skills and techniques by holding special fielding and batting training sessions as soon as the end of the last Test series so that they could take up the title of the tour-ending series under their possession.

“We’ve done quite well in the one-day and Test series also. We’ve got that confidence,” said Upul Tharanga.

“We’ve got new faces for the Twenty20 series. I think, we’ve got a good momentum what we want to carry that forward,” Tharanga told reporters at the pre-match day press conference at the Media Block of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium yesterday. “Everyone is looking forward to that. Hopefully we can change the momentum more than before,” he added.

Although they were not consistent for the last two years, this Sri Lankan top-order batsman, who played so far 20 T20Is for the Islanders, said that the momentum they got from the back-to-back series they will try their best to maintain it and finish the last series in emphatic vein.

“This series is also very important for us as a team,” the 33-year-old batsman said.

“We haven’t been consistent in the last one-and-a-half to two years. But we got the momentum here from the one-day international series. I think, we’ll be able to continue that and finish the T20 series very well,” he hoped.

The wickets in Mirpur were in center of all the discussions since the last BPL. But Tharanga, who occasionally stood behind the wickets, said that they hope to get a good wicket tomorrow though they played on different wickets during the previous outings of one-day and Test series.

“Main thing is about wicket and conditions. We’ve played with a few Bangladeshi players, so we know what they are capable of. It’s going to help both sides. They also know what we can do,” the top-order batsman said.

“We can’t be sure of it until tomorrow. Hopefully it will be a good wicket,” he also said.

“In the one-day series we also got different wickets. In the first two games the wicket was good, then in the later part of the series wickets are getting really slow. In the Test match also we got a bowling track. So we hope for a good wicket tomorrow,” he added.

When asked about new players of the Tigers tent, he said that they have no problem for them as they have idea about them what they got while playing in BPL.

“If you take our team, a few of the players have been playing BPL. We’ve got an idea of how they’re doing. They’re new to the side and have done well during the BPL. We’ve seen a few videos about them. We’ve got an idea about them,” he thought.
