DU signs MoU with Japanese university
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Dhaka University (DU) and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Japan here on Tuesday.
DU Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman and President of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Prof Hirotaka Tateishi signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides at the DU VC's office.
Director of the DU Institute of Modern Languages (IML) Prof Dr Shishir Bhattacharja, Teacher in-charge of Japanese Language and Culture Programme of IML Dr Mohammed Ansarul Alam, Professor of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Dr Naonori Kusakabe and Fund Rising Coordinator of Shapla Neer, a Japanese organisation in Dhaka, Ayako Inose were present on the occasion. According to the MoU, the two universities will exchange teachers and students as well as conduct joint research activities.
Earlier, Japanese Prof Naonori Kusakabe called on Dhaka University (DU) the DU Vice-chancellor at the latter's office.
AIUB student selected to attend C’wealth meeting
Rezwanur Rahman, a student of Computer Science Department of American International University- Bangladesh (AIUB), has recently been selected as a national delegate of the government of Bangladesh for joining the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting- 2018 (CHOGM).
The CHOGM will be held at Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace in the UK in the 2nd week of April, says a press release.
A total of two delegates have been selected from Bangladesh to represent the country at the international stage and play an active role in the Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF). Rezwanur will attend the 11th Commonwealth Youth Forum- 2018 (CYF) and Commonwealth Youth Council General Assembly, which will be held during the CHOGM from April 16 to 18 at Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre of Westminster in London.
The prime ministers from 52 Commonwealth countries, including Bangladesh, will attend the CHOGM.
4th Model UN conference begins at JU today
SAVAR: A three-day ‘Model United Nation Conference-2018’ will begin today on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus.
With the slogan, ‘Rebuilding Human Policies for Sustainable Development’, Jahangirnagar University Model United Nation Association (JUMUNA) is organising the conference at the Zahir Raihan auditorium on the campus.
Secretary General of the Model UN Conference Shamsul Islam Nayem disclosed the event at a press conference held at Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association office yesterday. A total of 300 students from 40 public and private universities around the country will is taking part at the conference while they will discuss different international affairs dividing into eight groups, he said.
‘We will try to find out different problems and solution of international affairs that will raise awareness among the participators about the international and national problems and solutions’, he added. State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative AlhajMashiur Rahman Ranga MP is expected to inaugurate the conference as the chief guest. The conference will end on February 17.
27 get PhD, 19 MPhil degrees from DU
As many as 27 researchers have got Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees while 19 others were given Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degrees from Dhaka University (DU) this year, reports BSS.
They were given the degrees at a syndicate meeting with DU Vice-chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman in the chair on January 30 last, said a press release in Dhaka yesterday.
Jahangirnagar Theatre gets new committee
Jahangirnagar Theatre, the drama based cultural organisation of the university, yesterday announced 12-member executive committee for the next one year.
Professor Kamrul Ahsan Titu and Dipankar Chakrabarti Dip were made President and General Secretary respectively of the new committee.
Besides, Assistant Professor of History department Anisa Parvin Joly was made Advisor of the organisation. The new committee formed at the annual meeting of this organisation yesterday held at Student Teacher Center of the university.
The other office bearers are – Organising Secretary Prithula Proshun Puja, Production Secretary Sultana Razia Shanta, Publication Secretary Fahmida Khanam Aditi, Library Secretary Asma Akhter, Treasurer Shoumik Bagchi, Office Secretary Tasnia Tahsin Arshi and Joint Office Secretary Anan Afsan Azad.
