The repatriation of Rohingya refugees will be discussed between the home ministers of Bangladesh and Myanmar at a meeting to be held in the city today.
This was confirmed by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday.
“We'll also talk about putting an end to the smuggling of yaba tablets from Myanmar and the cooperation between the border forces of the two countries,” Kamal told reporters at a function of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
The paramilitary force celebrated its 23rd founding anniversary yesterday at its bases and its headquarters.
Kamal attended the function as chief guest at the Coast Guard headquarters. As many as 40 coast guards received the prestigious ‘Bangladesh Coast Guard Award’, ‘President Coast Guard Award’, ‘Bangladesh Coast Guard (Service) Award’ and ‘President Coast Guard (Service) Award’ for this year at the event.
Among the 40 awardees, 22 were officers, 16 sailors and two civil employees.
Kamal said Bangladesh and Myanmar signed a 10-point declaration and submitted some proposals on various issues, such as Rohingya repatriation, border terrorism, and cooperation between forces, during his recent visit to Myanmar.
There are about 12 lakh Rogingyas staying in different areas, especially in Cox’s Bazar and its adjacent areas, of the country.
