Price fall in large-caps drives stocks down

Stock markets closed yesterday with downward trend mainly due to price fall in large-cap securities, reports BSS.

The falling major sectors were insurance, textile, financial institutions and ceramics. A total of 154 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) settled at 6,082.29, after falling 11.66 points compared to the previous session. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 7.17 points down at 1,405.23 and with 11.78 points down at 2,244.04.

The daily trade fell to 12.23 crore shares from Sunday’s 13.02 crore shares. But the day’s trade value at DSE increased to Tk 486.64 crore from Tk 455.45 crore of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 335 securities, prices of 108 securities closed higher against 183 losing issues. The major gaining issues were BSCCL, BSC, ANWARGALV, USMANIAGL and GQ Ball Pen. The major losing companies were GREENDELT, Sonargaon, Prime Finance, SP Ceramics and Makson Spinning.

GP topped the turnover list followed by Square Pharma, Lanka Bangla Finance, BRAC Bank and PTL.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 17.83 points down at 18,806.56.

At CSE, 241 issues were traded. Of those, 101 closed higher and 110 closed lower when 78.42 lakh shares worth Tk 20.03 crore changed hands.
