The Chittagong University (CU) authorities yesterday have expelled its former assistant proctor Anwar Hossain Chowdhury temporarily as he was sent to jail in central Chhatra League leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury murder case on 18 December last year. The authorities sent a press release in this regard signed by deputy registrar KM Noor Ahmad. Sources said Anwar Hossain was the assistant proctor and also a teacher of sociology department of the university. He was allegedly involved with the central BCL leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury murder case. Diaz was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence near Gate-2 of Chittagong University on the night of November 20, 2016. On November 24, 2016, Diaz’s mother lodged a murder case with a Chittagong court . In the case, on August 7, 2017, a Chittagong court issued an arrest warrant against 10 people, including him and several former leaders of CU BCL. Anwar was granted bail and his bail has been expired on December 18. When he surrendered before a court, the court sent him to the jail after rejecting his bail petition on the day, said sources. CU deputy registrar KM Noor Ahmod said, “According to the CU employee’s skill and discipline act 15 ‘a”, we expelled him from the university as temporary.”
