Speak with one voice, Quader to AL leaders

UNB

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday urged Awami League leaders to speak with one voice in line with the party stance on any issue, reports UNB. “Now we’re speaking in different tones, creating problems. This is suicidal ...such behaviour weakens us and other may take the opportunity. People in the government should follow the same line,” he said in the wake of criticisms by some Awami League leaders over the hike of gas and electricity prices.
Obaidul Quader, also a presidium member of the ruling party, said this while addressing a discussion marking the National Mourning Day organised by Private University Chhatra League at Bangladesh Medical Association Auditorium in the city.
“The government has decided to raise the gas and electricity prices to reduce its subsidy pressure,” said the minister adding that the Prime Minister never takes any decision that affects public interests.
He, however, recognised that the country’s transport sector might be affected due to the fuel price hike. “I’ll direct BRTA to sit with the stakeholders so that price hike can be kept at a tolerable level.”
Quader also urged the Chhatra League leaders and activists not to do anything that may embarrass the government.
