PANCHAGARH: Farmers of the district are happy with bumper production of turmeric due to favourable weather and getting fair price this season, reports BSS. The farmers have started harvesting turmeric from their respective land and selling them in the local hat and markets at about Taka 900 to Taka 1000 per maund. Farmer Tota Mia of Ramganj Bilashi village under Debiganj upazila of the district said, ”I have cultivated turmeric on 20 bighas of land like every year. After reducing all expenditure I got Taka six lakh profit by selling the product.”
Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Panchagarh Samchul Huque said this year around 5,000 hectares of land have been brought under the turmeric cultivation in the district.
On the other hand, the commercial banks include Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, Janata Bank and other banks and NGOs have given short term easy agri loan for turmeric cultivation among the farmers.
