RAJSHAHI: Public representatives and development activists here observed that an adequate support from the community, including the public representatives, is very effective to ensure safe schooling for girls for their proper grooming, reports BSS. They mentioned that ensuring safe schooling for girls could be the vital means of transforming them into worthy citizens besides boosting women empowerment and leadership.
To this end, all concerned including parents, teachers and members of school managing committee, should put in their best efforts. The concerted efforts will supplement the national work plan 2013-2025 for combating violence against women and children and achieving the sustainable development goals- 2030, they added.
They were addressing two separate daylong ‘Facilitators Refresher Trainings on Safe School for Girls’ at Mohanpur Upazila Parishad Hall room and Charghat FA Model School in the district on Thursday.
The Hunger Project Bangladesh (THPB) organized the training in association with Her Choice Programme and Safe School for Girls Campaign. Some 48 community facilitators and 24 school-teachers from different unions took part in the training. THPB Training Officer Tanuja Kamal, Area Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul and Upazila Coordinators Ashraful Islam Sarker, Jewel Rana and Joynal Abedeen conducted the training as resource persons. Upazila Chairman Abdus Samad, UP Chairmen Hasanuzzaman Madhu, Alamin Biswas, Emajuddin Khan and Al Momin Shah addressed the programmes as guests of honour.
Tanuja Kamal viewed ensuring safe schooling for the girls through combating all sorts of violence especially sexual harassment against them is very vital for boosting skilled human resources coupled with women empowerment.
Sexual harassment restricts girls’ rights to education, rights to mobility and rights to freedom. So, the social crime must be uprooted through forging a social movement.
