SSC question leakers to be booked soon, says Dhaka board chief

UNB

Acting Chairman of Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Shahedul Kabir Chowdhury, yesterday said that those involved with SSC question paper leaks will be booked within days, reports UNB. Investigators have several developments in this regard; the acting chairman told UNB adding that those responsible behind the leaks would be booked in a day or two.

His words of assurance came when this year's ongoing Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams are embroiled in series of leaks with media reporting about leaked questions being made available through social media networks and messenger apps prior students appearing for every exam papers. But, the authorities have completely failed to prevent the leaks till date. Shahedul Kabir Chowdhury, however, reasoned that those leaks were not affecting the examinees that much as those were being made available only 15 to 20 minutes of the exam schedules.

Earlier on February 4, the government declared a bounty of Tk 5 lakh each for handing over to the authorities the criminals involved in question paper leakage. As question paper leak spree continues, yesterday's Mathematics papers was also found on several Facebook pages along with the answers more than an hour before yesterday’s exam began.

Gazipur police on Saturday detained Amzad Hossain, assistant secretary of Mauna Bohumukhi High School in Sreepur, while he was taking the SSC question paper out of the exam centre. From February 1, SSC and its equivalent examinations for the year 2018 have begun across the country.

A total of 20,31,899 students, including 10,23,212 boys and 10,08,687 girls, are sitting for the examinations from 8,5,51 institutions under 3412 centres.

Fear gripped students and guardians if the government cancels any examination due to the ongoing leak incidents. While taking to this correspondent, some of them expressed their dissatisfaction saying: We can to sit attentively for the examinations due to fear. Anxiety gripped us all the time.

Our children are in fear of whether the question paper of the next exam would be leaked or not,” a guardian told UNB. What is the benefit of being so studious when we see in the next morning that the question paper had been leaked? We don't even enjoy if our exams are good; said a student.

Asked about the development, Sohrab Hossain, secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, said that steps would be taken after getting report from the monitoring committee.
