Nat’l Environment Olympiad begins at DU

A two-day long National Environment Olympiad started at Dhaka University (DU) yesterday with an aim to motivate students for saving environment to overcome the challenges of climate change.
Dhaka University geography and environment department is organising the olympiad at Teacher-Student Centre auditorium to mark World Environment Day 2015, said the organisers.
Nearly 300 students of different educational institutions are attending the programme.
The two-day long Olympiad is also featuring Art, Presentation and Essay Competition-2015.  DU Fine Arts Faculty Dean Professor Abul Barak Alvi was present as judge at the primary round of the competition. The final round will be held today.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A A M S Arefin Siddique will distribute prizes among the winners of the competition today (Saturday) at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban at 4 pm.
DIU team visits South Korea university
 A three-member delegation from Daffodil International University (DIU) led by its Board of Trustees chairman Md. Sabur Khan visited the Chungnam National University (CNU), Daejeon in South Korea on Tuesday.
Md. Fouad Hossain Sarker, assistant professor, Department of Natural Sciences, and Md. Iqbal Bhuyan, an alumnus of DIU and lecturer of the department of business administration, DIU, were also in the visiting team.  The DIU delegation was cordially welcomed by top management of CNU.
The visiting team went round different sections of the university. Successful meeting held between Dr Song Yong-ho, president of CNU, and Md Sabur Khan, chairman, Board of Trustees, DIU. Vice president, dean and other top officials of CNU were also present during the meeting. The host university instantly offered three full free PhD scholarships for DIU faculty members. Student exchange programme and some other future collaborative opportunities were also given priority under joint understanding.
This is mentionable that under the international collaboration strategy, DIU has already signed both Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) & Memorandum of Association (MOA) with CNU.  A CNU team visited DIU and held successful meetings with DIU management a month back.  Founded in 1952, CNU is one of the ten flagship Korean national universities.
Under the educational motto of "Creativity, Development, and Service to the Community" it is recognised as one of the most prestigious five national universities in Korea.
BU training on modern teaching methods
To let the faculty members up to date and to make them aware of the modern teaching methods and techniques, Bangladesh University (BU) at a regular interval organised two training programmes each and every year for all the faculty members.
In continuation of the programme, BU in joint collaboration with Graduate Training Institute (GTI), Mymensingh, recently arranged a training programme on ‘Teaching Methods and Techniques’ from August23 to 27.
Thirty-five faculty members from 10 departments participated in this programme.
Three renowned expert trainers delivered 40 lecturers during this training session.  
The certificates distribution and closing session were held on the last day of this programme at 5.00 pm while Engineer MA Ghulam Dastagir, Secretary, BoT, BU was in the chair. VC in-charge Mr. Kamrul Hasan, three Deans of three faculties Prof. Dr. Md. Imamudddin, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Uddin Chowdhury and Prof. Mustafa Kamaluddin respectively spoke on the occasion.  
All section heads and high officials were also present at the programme.
Deputy Registrar, Human Resource & Coordinator of this training program Ms. Rabeya Hussain conducted this session. The training program has created positive impact on the participants and has been highly appreciated by all concerned.
Seminar on career development held at EU
In association with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Career Services and International Office (CSIO) of Eastern University (EU) organized a seminar titled ‘Career Development through Professional Learning’ on last 24 August (Monday) 2015 at 11:00 AM in the EU seminar Hall. The seminar was conducted by Ms. Noor-E-Fayzun, Business Relationship Officer, ACCA Bangladesh.
Joining in this session Eastern University students came to know that how getting recognized certifications can get them the job, help them to retain that job during layoffs, increase the marketability of their skill sets and provide professional credibility for them and firm them in a highly competitive marketplace. Investing the time and effort to acquire an accounting certification can also increase their salary, bonus and standing within company. Moreover, these credentials can provide more opportunities for a promotion. In the seminar it was also focused that through the ACCA path way, students can also avail BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University and MSc in Professional Accountancy, which are accepted worldwide.
Above all the seminar was very informative and interactive and it ended with a question and answering session.
CUET gets two new departments
Two new departments have started journey at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).
The new departments are Civil and Water Resources Engineering (CWRE) and Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering (MIE). The newly launched departments have already invited applications for Honours course from the admission-seekers from the current 2015-16 academic session.  The CUET authorities said that 30 students could take admission to each of the two new departments. Dr Md Riaz Akhter Mallick and Dr Sheikh Md Humayun Kabir have been appointed as the chairpersons of the CWRE and the MIE departments respectively.
Prof Dr Md Jahangir Alam, vice chancellor of the CUET, said that they established the two departments as part of turning the university into a centre of excellence.
BSMMU, Novel University sign MoU
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Canada's Novel International University to intensify its research activities, reports BSS.
BSMMU VC Kamrul Hasan Khan, Pro-VC Md Shahidullah Shikder and Novel International University's Roger IC Hansell and Chancellor Biswajit (Bob) Ganguly signed the MoU on their respective sides at a programme, said a press release.
During the programme, VC Kamrul Hasan Khan thanked the Novel University authorities for signing the MoU and said it will create scope to intensity cooperation in the area of research and education between the two universities. Pro-VC Shahidullah Shikder made a power point presentation on the education, research, development and other activities of BSMMU.
