RAJSHAHI: A long-term plan to solve the existing problems of the region's ethnic community was stressed at a discussion yesterday for their self- reliance and peaceful existence as the conventional development programmes and approaches yield less desired results for the disadvantaged communities, reports BSS. The observations came at a discussion titled "Post 2015 Agenda: Ensuring Livelihood Improvement of Ethnic Minorities" held
at Ashroy Research and Training Centre in the city.
Empowerment of the disadvantaged communities for ensuring the social justice of ethnic communities is very vital for elevation of their living and livelihood conditions alongside their mainstreaming, the discussants observed.
Ashroy, a non-government development organisation works for improving living and livelihood condition of the ethnic people, organised the discussion in association with Campaign for Human Rights in observation of the International Adibashi Day-2015.
Local unit coordinator of BLAST Advocate Abdus Samad addressed the meeting as chief guest while Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, Rajshahi University teacher Dr Mostofa Kamal Akanda and Presidium Member of Jatiya Adibashi Parishad Anil Marandi spoke as special guests with Toufiqul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of Ashroy, in the chair.
Advocate Ganesh Saren, Chief of Campaign for Human Rights Advocate Nilufar Banu, Journalist Anwar Hossain and development activist Hopna Kisku were the panel
discussants.
The speaker underscored the need for establishing social justice for the plain land ethnic communities through removing all sorts of disparity. Various other rights-based issues like job placement, land, education, health and recognition came for discussion in the meeting.
