A social worker from Natore district has sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s intervention to save him and his family from the wrath of a member of Parliament and his gang. The victim, MAZ Moshiur Rahman Mollah, executive director of Bachte Chai Somaj Unnayan Sangstha, a social welfare organisation in Natore district, said the local MP, Shafiul Islam Shimul, tortured him by hitting his fingers with a hammer and threatened the lives of his family members.Moshiur sought the intervention of the
Prime Minister, volunteer organisations, the Human Rights Commission, Democracy Watch, legal aid organisations and law enforcement agencies. He alleged at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium yesterday (Saturday) that Shimul and his gang tortured his family for filing a writ petition in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on April 13 this year, alleging violation of recruitment rules of Article 7(2) of 2015. He mentioned the irregularities in the recruitment order of appointing night guards-cum-office assistants in primary schools in the constituency.
Justice Kazi Rezaul Karim and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman passed a stay order on the recruitment on July 7.
“On August 10, a group of local thugs, sent by Shimul, abducted me from my house and took me to a secluded area and beat me up until I fainted. They then took me to the MP's house. Shimul threatened me for filing the writ petition and told me to withdraw it, or my young child would be killed,” he said.
“They later forced me to sign a stamp paper valued at Tk. 300 and told me to withdraw the petition and threw me out on the street. An autorickshaw driver rescued me and took me to hospital. Shimul and his gang are now threatening me to withdraw the petition. Being a social worker, I seek the intervention of the PM. As an MP, Shimul is supposed to ensure the security of citizens,” said Moshiur.
