Asif Hasan’s hat-trick as well as Naeem Islam’s century outshone as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club mauled Legends of Rupganj by three runs in their first round fixture of the Walton-Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP-4) yesterday.
Half centuries by Mehedi Maruf and Zakir Hasan set up Prime Bank Cricket Club to post their league-opening victory against Kalabagan Krira Chakra with seven-wicket win at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.
Elsewhere, at the BKSP-4, Alok Kapali’s batting scintillation stunned Mohammedan Sporting Club as Brothers Union Limited thrashed them by five wickets.
Sheikh Jamal vs Rupganj
Opting to bat, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club (230 for 9 in 50 overs) scrabbled by Asif Hasan’s credible hat-trick after making a brilliant start but that could not baulk them to post a fighting total. Asif Hasan completed his hat-trick when he accounted for Hassanuzzaman in the first delivery of his new over following the removal of Pinak Ghosh and Saikat Ali in the fifth and sixth balls of his previous over.
In reply, Legends of Rupganj lost five wickets in the space of 56 runs and ultimately they were restricted to 227 for 8 in 50 overs. Naeem Islam partnered Nazmul Hossain Milon and stroke 89 for the sixth wicket stand before Milon’s fall for 51.
Prime Bank vs Kalabagan
Put in to bat, Kalabagan Krira Chakra managed to put on 172 for eight in their stipulated 50 overs courtesy of Mahmud Hasan Limon’s 50 and Taibur Rahman Parvez’s 45. Fast bowler Delwar Hossain together with Ariful Haque and Shariful Islam jolted the top-order with a combined pace effort. Al Amin Junior compounded the fuss further while Kalabagan were tattering at 68 for five.
Man-of-the-match Delwar Hossain snapped up three wickets, while Shariful Islam and Nahidul Islam snared two wickets each for Prime Bank.
In reply, Prime Bank Cricket Club hunted down the paltry target with 84 balls remaining. A 74-run opening stand between Mehedi Maruf and Zakir Hasan laid the base for the Bankers.
MSC vs Brothers
Mohammedan Sporting Club rode on captain Shamsur Rahman Shuvo’s 85 and Salman Butt’s fifty-plus scores compiled 230 for eight after being put in to bat first that seemed not enough on BKSP’s batting track what Brothers Union again proved with their mediocre batting line-up.
Chasing the target, Brothers Union were fumbled by losing their opener Mianur Rahman for six. Then they mislaid another two wickets in the space of two runs while they were sprawling at 51 for three.
At this juncture, Alok Kapali appeared in wickets and steadied the innings with John Simpson. He shared 105 for the fourth wicket before Simpson’s fall for 39.
