Dhaka International Textile and Garment Machinery Exhibition (DTG), the largest textile and garment machinery exhibition, will commence today to showcase their high-caliber machinery covering all aspects of the entire textile and garment industry of Bangladesh, says a press statement.
The 15th edition of a four-day expo jointly organised by Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and Yorkers Trade and Marketing Service Company Ltd will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital.
The show is mainly designed to bring together all the related machines and technologies from both regional and international brands under one roof, serving as a professional trade platform for all the buyers to sharpen their competitive edges, BTMA acting president Md Ali Khokon said Tuesday at a press conference at its office in the capital.
Vice President of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) Mohammad Ali Khokon said that DTG is not mere an exhibition for displaying the latest technological advancement in textile and garments machineries and accessories alone, it is a showcase and attractive avenue for demonstrating of the progress and advancement of our industrialisation efforts in textile sector.z
He also said that investment in Bangladesh's textile sector topped $6 billion from its inception. The textile industry has been playing a significant role in building a robust and sustainable backward-linkage industry.
This year, the RMG and Textile sector contributed 83.38 per cent of the country's entire export income.
Hence, the contribution of textiles, in GDP, is approximately 13 per cent, said Khokon.
Approximately, 50 lakh people are employed in these two sectors. There is an ample opportunity to create more employment in this sector because textile sector is known as a capital intensive industry, he said.
