Upazila chairman arrested with 12 bombs in Jhenidah

An upazila chairman was reportedly arrested with 12 bombs while devising subversive acts from a house in Kutchadpur upazila Sadar on Tuesday, reports UNB.

The arrestee is Nazma Khatun, acting upazila chairman of the upazila. Acting on secret information, police conducted a raid at the house around 7pm while the chairman along with her men was planning subversion and recovered 12 bombs from the house, said officer-in-charge of Kutchadpur Police Station Biplob kumar Saha.

Nazma became senseless seeing the law enforcers at her house and later she was sent to the Kutchadpur Upazila Health Complex for her treatment, said the OC, adding that Nazma is serving as secretary of Kutchadpur Upazila Jamaat Female unit, the OC added.

Woman killed ‘by son’    

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Faridpur

A woman was killed allegedly by her drug addict son at Ambikapur near Faridpur town on Tuesday.

The deceased was Amina Khatun, 55, of the village.

According to local sources, Akkas, son of Amina demanded money from his mother. As shed refused to give the money, Akkas got furious and hit his mother with a heavy piece of wood leaving Amina critically injured.

Later, neighbors rushed her to Faridpur General Hospital. As her condition deteriorated she was sifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) where on duty doctor declared her dead.  Md Nazimuddin, officer-in-charge of Kotiwali police station confirmed the incident saying police is trying to arrest the killer.

Diversified agriculture comes as boon for Narsingdi char people

NARSINGDI: Hundreds of poor char people living in 12 remote char unions of Narsingdi Sadar and Raipura upazilas have successfully overcome their poverty through multifarious agriculture, reports BSS.

Sources with the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said before taking up the diversified agriculture as their means of subsistence at least half of them were in abject poverty in the erosion prone sandy chars of the Meghna, Brahamaputra and Arial Khan river basins in Narsingdi district. But, now they are leading a good life.  The sources said most of the char people here have achieved success and overcome poverty through farming paddy, groundnut, sweet potato and various vegetables in the vast tracts of sandy barren char lands.
