DU, British Council ink MoU

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Music of Dhaka University (DU) and British Council, Dhaka today at the Vice Chancellor's office of the university. Chairperson of the Department of Music of DU Mohoshina Akter Khanom and Director of Business Support Service of British Council Jim Pollard signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.  DU Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman and Country Director of British Council Barbara Wickham were present on the occasion. According to the MoU, British Council, the United Kingdom's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, will organise a two-hour musical performance in Dhaka by two selected singers from the Music department of DU every month.

IU goes on winter vacation from today

Kushtia: Islamic University (IU) will go on an 11-day winter vacation today. The academic and administrative activities of the university will remain closed from February 6 to 16, sources at IU registrar office said on Monday.

IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif said the academic and administrative activities of the university will resume on February 17. IU hall provost council president Prof MA Shariful Alam said that all the dormitories of the university will remain open for the students during the vacation. The university authorities have rescheduled the vacation due its fourth convocation.

Five get RUJA ‘Best Journalist Award’   

RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi University Journalists' Association (RUJA) have awarded five campus journalists for their reports on the university.

The awardees are Suzon Ali of New Age and UNB, Gaushul Azam Milton of Daily Amader Somoy, Shaiful Islam of NTV online, Moin Uddin of BSS and Shahin Alam oflastnewsbd.com.  RU public relations office administrator Prof Provash Kumar Karmokar and RU mass commission and journalism department chairman Prof  Pradip Kumar Panday handed over the award to the winners at a ceremony at RUJA office premises at11am. Suzon Ali got the 'Best Journalist Award-2017' while Gaushul Alam Milton and Shahin Alam jointly got the award under feature category and Moin Uddin and Shaiful Islam jointly got the award under investigative reports. Among others, RUJA president Mustafiz Rony, general secretary Jahirul Islam Jahid, and vice-presidents Rashed Rintu and Salekin Ahmed addressed the ceremony.

Training workshop starts at BSMRAU

GAZIPUR: A three day training workshop on ‘Quality Culture and Quality Assurance within the University’ began yesterday at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), says a press release.

Vice-chancellor of the university Prof Md Giashuddin Miah was the chief guest at the inaugural session and delivered his speech. Director (IQAC) Prof Md Khurshed Alam Bhuiyan presided over the programme while Prof Tofayel Ahmed Treasurer of the university was the special guest. In the technical session Dean Graduate Studies Prof Jalal Uddin Ahmed, Additional Director (IQAC) Prof Md Abiar Rahman, Registrar of the university Syed Zahurul Amin were present their topic based articles. All the officers of the university were participated in the workshop and the next two days the employees will be participate.

National Library Day observed at DU, JnU

Dhaka University observed the first ever National Library Day yesterday highlighting the importance of books, reading, and libraries in the everyday lives of people. The Department of Library and Information Science of the university brought out a procession to observe the day where former and current students participated.

DU Vice-chancellor Prof Akhtaruzaman inaugurated the rally in the morning at the base of Aparajeya Bangla that paraded several streets of the campus before ending at the Central Public Library. Earlier, Cultural Affairs Secretary Ibrahim Hossain Khan inaugurated the first national library day at a programme held at National Library at Shahabag. National Library day is being observed for the first time across the country.   A colorful rally was held at Jagannath University (JnU) in the initiative of the JnU Central Library marking the day. JnU Vice-chancellor Prof Mizanur Rahman led the procession that started from the Shaheed Minar premises of the university. Deans, departmental chairmen, teachers, students, officers and employees of various faculties of the university participated in the rally.
