The first death anniversary of eminent politician Suranjit Sengupta was observed yesterday, reports BSS. Marking the day, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote torched candle lights in front of Shikha Chirantan at Suhrawardy Udyan in the afternoon. Awami League and several social and cultural organisations have taken programmes in the capital and at Derai in Sunamganj. Suranjit Sengupta, a discreet politician, was one of the youngest members of the Provincial Assembly in the 1970 election. He was elected in almost all the parliamentary constituencies in four decades including the first parliament after the independence of the country. He was a member of the Awami League Advisory Council in his last phase of life. On this day in 2017, Suranjit Sengupta breathed his last at a private hospital in the capital at the age of 72.
