Arambagh hook another ‘big fish’ Jamal

A late strike from Mohammed Jewel steered Arambagh Krira Sangha to book final berth in the Walton Independence Cup football tournament when they had a stunning solitary goal win over Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.

Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday after defeating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Arambagh recorded their successive victory over the league champions and the league runners-up.

Inspired by the incredible 3-0 victory over league champions Abahani Limited in the quarterfinal, Aramabgh made their second victims the league runners-up to move into the final.    

A different Aramabgh despite started with a slow pace, produced some entertaining movements to have better dominance and also threatened for several times with going closer to open scoring spaces.        

Jamal created first effort with Anisur Alam took a 20 yards strong left footer which was saved with equal brilliance from Jamal keeper Mohammed Nayeem on 24th minute and an endeavor from Zahid Pervej Chowdhury in the added time was noted attempts from Jamal.   

Jamal, though started the match as the day’s favourites played under pressure as Aramabgh demonstrated organised and disciplined game to enjoy better possessions.

The hard working Arambagh, who hardly allowed spaces for stronger opponents to make any trouble, threw huge challenges to keep their better control in the game and could have clear lead inside half an hour mark of the match but Bappy, Rocky, Arif even captain Abu Sufian could not capitalised the opportunities came to their ways.

Shahriar Bappy, who was one of the scorers of Arambagh’s 3-0 win over Abahani Limited in their quarterfinal clash, took superb ground shot but it missed the far post on 38th minute.

The only chance Jamal produced in the first half injury time was a lofted cross from Zahid Pervej Chowdury when the floating cross after a touch of keeper was about to go into the net but the ball returned after hitting the cross bar.

The second half was also began with same fashion when both side onset with attacking mood and the match control gradually went to Arambagh, who could stun the league runners up with early strike but efforts from Sufil and Bappy were tremendously saved by goalkeeper Nayeem.

Jamal, though played under pressure also created a real chance to take lead on 87th minute but a Jabed Khan’s effort brilliantly saved by Jewel, the way Javed made space for a right-foot shot from the edge of the penalty area that forced the scrambling save was sublime.

The real excitement of the match created just on 89th minutes when Mohammed Jewel notched his right footer to end Jamal all hopes to move forward.

The forward was alert enough to seize his opportunity, sticking out a foot to beat his markers at the edge of the penalty area and sent the cut back of Sufil into the bottom corner (1-0).
