Kazi Salahuddin’s 29th solo art show underway at AFD

The 29th solo painting exhibition titled ‘Fragmented Unity’ by artist Kazi Salahuddin Ahmed is underway at the La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka, Dhanmondi in the capital.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid inaugurated the two-week long exhibition as chief guest on Thursday evening on the gallery premises.

Using acrylic paint on wood and newspaper on wood as medium, Kazi Salahuddin Ahmed is showcasing around 10 artworks in this exhibition.

Growing up in Old Dhaka, a historical part of Bangladesh’s capital city that still bears the signs of multicultural infusions spanning four centuries, provides an opportunity to be eclectic. Built by the Mughals from 15th century onwards and developed as the provincial centre of commerce of the eastern part of Bengal, this part of Dhaka evokes a vis-à-vis repertory of memory and a sociality which comes with the unique imbrications of faiths, cultures and most importantly, an environment concatenated with various historical eras.

Salauddin's works spring from this heterogeneous mix where lives of peoples are marked by the joy of proximity fueling a strong sense of belongingness. This is perhaps best reflected in the architecture.

Kazi Salahuddin Ahmed is a very prolific artist who has realized his first exhibition in 1987. He has already participated in many group exhibitions and carried out 28th solo exhibitions in Bangladesh and abroad.

The exhibition remains open to all till February 13 and can be visited according to the following schedule: Monday to Thursday from 3:00pm to 9:00pm, Friday and Saturday (9:00am to12:00 noon and 5:00pm to 8:00pm). Closed on Sunday.

AFD: 26 Mirpur Road, Dhanmondi
