Youth held with 6 crude bombs

Brahmanbaria: Police arrested a young man along with six crude bombs from the town on Thursday night, reports UNB.

Tipped off, a team of police raided a house and arrested Sumon Miah, 30, son of Fazlul Haque Prokash, along with the crude bombs, said inspector Sohag Raha of 2 no town police outpost.

3 lakh yaba tablets seized

Cox’s Bazar: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 3 lakh pieces of contraband Yaba from Mundar Deil Sea Beach here early yesterday, reports UNB.

A BGB patrol team conducted a drive in the area around2:30amand recovered the Yaba worth Tk 9 crore, said Lt Col SM Ariful Islam of Teknaf BGB-2 battalion.

However, there was no arrest as the smugglers fled the scene, the BGB official said.

Fog halts ferry services   

Munshiganj: Ferry services on Shimulia-Kathalbari route in the Padma River were suspended on Friday morning due to thick fog, reports UNB.

Shah Newaz Khalid, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said ferry services on the river route came to a complete halt since 5am due to poor visibility.

Six ferries were stranded with thousands of passengers in the mid-river, causing immense sufferings to the travellers amid cold weather.

BNP, Juba Dal leaders held

Brahmanbaria: Police in a special drive arrested two local leaders of BNP and Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal from Kandipara area of the district town on Thursday night, reports UNB.

A team of police conducted the drive and arrested ABM Mominul Haque, joint secretary of district BNP, and the Jubo Dal leader Sharif, said Nabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station.

Bodies of 2 missing cargo workers  found in Bishkhali River

Jhalokathi: Members of Fire Service and Civil Defense recovered two dead bodies from Bishkhali river in Kathalia upazila on Thursday, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Pannu Mia, 28 and Hasan, 25, two cargo boat laborers.

Pannu and Hasan went missing from 5am on Tuesday, when a Barguna-bound launch collided with the cargo on which they both were working at Moshabuniya launch ghat. The recovery operation was led by Lef Col Mokhlechur Rahman, Khulna region of Bangladesh Navy.

30 arrested, drugs seized

DINAJPUR: Police, in special drives arrested 25 persons including three activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 8am yesterday morning, reports BSS.

Law enforcers also recovered 218 bottles of Phensidyl, 5,000 pieces of cow fattening tablets and 100 pieces of Yaba tablets during the drives.

Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district.

During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested 11 persons including three activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Kornai village around 6am, Birganj Thana police arrested four persons, Khansama Thana police arrested two persons, Kaharole Thana police arrested two persons, Phulbari Thana police arrested two persons and Ghoraghat Thana police arrested four persons including two drug traders with 100 pieces of Yaba tablets from Azad Moor of the upazila around 11pm.

Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.

Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive detained five alleged drug traders with 218 bottles of Phensidyl and 5,000 pieces of cow fattening tablets form from Hili railway station around 8am in Hakimpur upazila of the district.

Later, the arrested persons were handed over to the Hakimpur Thana police, BGB said.
