The National Safety Food Day was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country yesterday here with a call to prevent food adulteration and ensure safe food for all, reports BSS.

This year’s theme of the day was “Nirapad Khadye Bhorbo Desh-Sobai Miley Gorbo Sonar Bangladesh” (Let the country be filled with safe food, let all join hands to build a golden Bangladesh).

Marking the day, the district administration chalked out elaborate programmes on the directives of the Food Ministry and the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA).

In the morning, a colourful rally led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal was brought out from the premises of District Collectorate Building that paraded main roads of the district town.

Later, a discussion was also held with additional district magistrate AKM Sadiqul Islam in the chair.

The DC addressed the meeting as the chief guest and assistant police super (Headquarters) KN Roy Neyoti, additional deputy commissioner (general) Muhammad Mizanur Rahman and deputy director of local government section M Shafiqul Islam were present there as the special guests.

DC Gautam Chandra Pal said safe food is one of the key components of the sustainable development goals and it is a big challenge of the country’s people and BSFA would play significant role to achieve the goals by 2030.

The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing various programmes, including ‘Food Safety Act’, and forming of BFSA considering the public health, the DC added.

The function was also addressed, among others, by district fisheries officer Abdud Dayan, district controller of food Amzad Hossain, district marketing officer Shah Moazzem Hossain, journalist Sarker M Shahiduzzaman.

The speakers in their speeches underscored the need for overcoming all problems at every level including ensuring food production processing, import, supply and making to get nutritious and safe food.
