Two-day Nat’l Poetry Festival starts

A two-day National poetry festival titled ‘Kobita Utsab’ has begun on the Dhaka University (DU) Central Library premises yesterday. With the theme 'Poetry for the struggle of people without country', Jatiyo Kobita Parishad has organized the 32nd version of the annual festival dedicating to late poet Sajjad Kadir who breathed his last on April 6, 2017. Jatiyo Kabita Utsab presidium member eminent poet Asad Chowdhury inaugurated the festival while Jatiyo Kobita Parishad president Muhammad Samad chaired the event. The festival began with the placing of wraths at the graves of the National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, Patua Kamrul Hassan and at the central Shahid Minar.

Then the artistes from 15 organisations including Wrishiz Shilpi Gosthi presented an inaugural song led by Fakir ALamgir. The two-day festival is featuring elaborate programmes, including recitation of poems, songs on Ekushey, seminars, discussions and exhibitions on poets and poetry.

A number of 17 poets from nine countries--India, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Mexico, Cameroon, Japan, Taiwan and Colombia—are participating in the event, while  300 local poets are participating in the event with their poems.

The two-day festival will end today.
