Nazimuddin Shyamol and Hassan Ferdous were elected president and general secretary respectively of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) for a two-year term. The election was held at Chittagong Press Club on Wednesday from 9am to 4pm. A total of 361 out of 392 voters cast their votes in the election, while 25 candidates vied in the polls for nine posts. Moazemul Haque, president of Election Conducting committee, announced the official results around 10pm on Wednesday. Nazimuddin Shyamol bagged 179 votes, while his nearest constant Reaz Haider Chowdhury got 170 votes.
Other elected office bearers are senior vice-president Mainuddin Dulal; vice-president Mohammad Ali; joint-secretary Sabur Shuvo; organising Secretary SM Iftekharul Islam; finance secretary Kashem Shah; press and publicity secretary Ahmed Kutub; and executive member Uttam Sen Gupta.
