Silver jubilee celebration of Nandimukh begins today

Chittagong-based theatre troupe Nandimukh has completed its 25 year long journey this year. On the occasion of celebrating its silver jubilee, Nundimukh has chalked out a yearlong programme. As a part of the yearlong programme, two-day celebration titled ‘Nandimukh Rangamela’ is going to begin today at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the city. Today, noted actress-director Rokeya Rafiq Baby will inaugurate the festival as chief guest, while noted theatre personality Ataur Rahman will be present as special guest.
After inaugural ceremony, host troupe Nandimukh will stage its acclaimed production ‘Urnajal’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA at 7pm. Written by Baqar Bakul, the play is directed by Faiz Jahir. The play depicts the expansion of communalism in society.
On the other hand, tomorrow, Nandimukh will bring its production titled ‘Tobuo Manush’ to the stage at the same venue. Written and directed by Abhijit Sengupta, the play is a depiction of victory over oppression. Renowned theatre personality and founder of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, Dhaka University Professor Syed Jamil Ahmed will inaugurate the staging of the play as chief guest, while Director General of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky will be present as guests.
Apart from staging the plays, Nandimukh two-day celebration will also include an exhibition of photos, posters, articles and criticisms, those were published in different souvenirs and newspapers centring their stage plays and various programmes over the last 25 long year journey of the troupe.
To note, ‘Nandimukh Rangamela’ is the third phase of Nandimukh’s year long programme. Earlier, they organised ‘Nandimukh South Asia Theatre Festival’ from January 2 to 10 and ‘Nandimukh Natyotroyee’ from March 14 to 16 this year.
