6 killed in accidents

Six people were killed in separate road accidents in Dhamrai, Savar, Manikganj, Kushtia and Gopalganj yesterday Three people were killed and five others injured in two separate road accidents at Dhamrai and Savar yesterday morning, reports BSS. Police said the accident occurred when an auto-rickshaw fell into a roadside ditch at Joypura in Dhamrai after its driver lost control over steering of the vehicle, leaving two passengers dead on the spot and five others injured.
The deceased have been identified as Majibur Rahman, 45, and Haradhan Sarker, 48. The injured were sent to local hospital for treatment. In another accident, an unidentified youth was run over by a brick-laden truck at Bismail on the Dhaka-Aricha highway under Savar police station. Two separate cases were filed in these connections.  Our Manikganj correspondent reports: A vegetable trader, identified as Abdul Mannan, 45, of Pataikona village in Ghior upazila, was killed in an accident near ‘Juka’ bus stand on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in the upazila. Officer-in-charge of Borangail highway police out post Akramuzzamn said the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound speeding micro bus fell into road side ditch after knocking down Mannan from behind while the he was waiting beside the road at around 9.30 pm. In Kushtia, a high school headmaster, was killed as a human hauler ran over him in Maligram area of Khoksha upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Mahbubul Alam, 50, a resident of Chak Haripur village of the upazila and the headmaster of Kolimohor High School. Kazi Daud Hossain, officer-in-charge of Khoksa police, said the accident took place in the area around 12:30am, while he was returning home from Pangsha, leaving him critically injured. Later, he was rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 3:30am.  In Gopalganj, a man was killed in Dhusar Bridge area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kashiani upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS. The deceased was Firoj Khan, 30, of Paschim Ratail village of the upazila. OC of Kashiani police Monirul Islam said the accident occurred when a speedy truck hit Firoj when he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot.
