BCL leader ‘assaults’ two JU female teachers

Two female teachers of Jahangirnagar University were allegedly assaulted by a BCL leader and some students on the campus yesterday, reports UNB. Associate Professor Ummay Saika and Assistant Professor Nahrin Islam of Geography and Environment department have jointly filed a complaint with JU proctor office seeking punishment to those involved in assaulting them. They, in the written complaint, claimed that Sanwar, BCL organising secretary of JU unit, also the student of Economics department and Arman, a fourth-year Law department student misbehaved with them while they were parking their car in Bottala road area of the campus around 1:30pm According to the written statement, the BCL leader and students also hurled abuse language to them during altercation over car parking.

"We requested them to give us just 10 minutes for parking the car here but they besieged us with the help of other students, numbering 20 to 25," it reads. The teachers, in the complaint, also urged the proctor to identify the students involved and bring them under trail.

Later, university security officer Sudipta Saheen and Assistant Proctor Mehedi Iqbal rescued them, they added in the statement.

However, the accused students claimed that they requested the teachers not to park the car on the road as it creates traffic jam there. Moreover, they know that the university administration has imposed restriction on car parking in the area, they said.

Contacted, JU Proctor Prof Tapan Kumar Saha said they have called an emergency meeting with proctorial body at 11am on Saturday just after getting the written complaint in this regard."
