The government will not allow any cattle market on and around national highways on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha to ensure smooth movement of homebound people and avoid traffic snarls during the Eid holidays.
Besides, if unfit vehicles are brought out on roads during the Eid holidays, stern legal action will be taken against their owners. “No cattle market will be allowed beside national highways or on highways during Eid-ul-Azha. If anyone violates the order, legal action will be taken against him,” road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader told reporters. He was inspecting the construction work of a road divider on the western side of Bangabandhu Bridge yesterday.
Warning drivers and owners of unfit vehicles, the minister said: “At an inter-ministerial meeting, the government decided not to allow unfit vehicles on national highways and any cattle market on and around the highways during Eid-ul-Azha. Action will be taken against drivers and owners, if anyone violates the order.”
