Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre is organising an evening of Rabindra Sangeet by Apala Basu from India at Kobi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh in the capital today. Apala Basu completed her initial training from the well-known ‘Gitabitan’ School in Kolkata, India, and has taken further tutelage under the guidance of Sri Mallar Bose. She has participated in a wide range of workshops with renowned exponents including Late Sri Subhash Choudhury, Sri Dwijen Mukhopadhyay, Sri Rajeshwar Bhattacharjee and Smt Sanghamitra Gupta.
She has also enjoyed a successful solo career and her many recordings of Tagore songs on television and CD have been widely praised and well received. She is currently preparing for upcoming dance drama performances of Shyama, Shapmochon, Chandalika and Chitrangada with her group Surolok in celebration of Tagore’s birthday. When she is not singing or performing, Apala teaches English language at Ramkrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Kolkata.
