Pregnant woman commits suicide

A pregnant woman, failing to bear the torture inflicted upon her by her husband and in-laws over dowry, allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday night. The victim has been identified as Alifa Begum, 18, wife of Sharif Mia of Bathuli village in  Delduwar upazila of  the district. Father of the victim Giashuddin of Borati village in Mirzapur upazila said Sharif used to torture Alifa frequently over dowry ever since he married her two years ago. On Wednesday, Sharif beat her up severely and drove her out of their room.  She passed the night outside of the room and at one stage committed suicide by hanging from a beam there. The body has been sent to Tangail Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, Mosarraf Hossain OC of Delduwar police station said.
