Polash police yesterday rescued a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) with serious physical injuries. Rafiqul Islam Ifti, 22, was abducted from Parulia Sadhurbazar area in the upazila on August 25. He is president of Gazaria Union Chhatra League unit. Abul Kalam Azad, officer in-charge of Polash police station, said there was a dispute between Rafiqul Islam Ifti, Arif and Nadim over giving illegal gas line connections for a long time. Arif, Nadim and Sajib are associates of Ifti in the underhand dealing. Arif and Nadim along with Sajib, allegedly made a plan to kill Ifti. On August 25, Sajib called Ifti to meet him to discuss their business. When Ifti reached Bhelanagar area, Sajib and his associates kidnapped Ifti, took him to Dattapara area in Narsingdi town and tortured him there. At about 8:30 pm the same night, they demanded Tk 5 lakh from his father as ransom. Later, when the criminals came to know that police have been informed of the matter, they injured him grievously and left him beside Parulia Shadhurbazar and fled. On information, victim’s father with the help of Polash police rescued Ifti and admitted him to Polash Tara Mia Memorial Hospital. Abul KIalam Azad, OC Polash police station, said they are trying to arrest the criminals.
