Six held over rape, murder of minor girl

Police yesterday arrested six people on charge of raping and killing a little girl whose body was found from a building at Bishwa Bank Residential Area under Akbar Shah Police Station in the port city on Sunday. After conducting separate drives from Wednesday night to early yesterday police arrested the six from different places of the port city. However, their identity could not be known immediately.

Officer-in-Charge of Akbar Shah Police Station Alamgir Mahmud said “Nine people, including caretaker of the building where the girl’s body was found, took part in the killing of the girl. We have detained six persons so far. In the primary interrogation the arrestees confessed that they had killed the girl after rape.”

The body of Fatema Akhter Mim, 9, a class-two student of a local madrasah and daughter of Md Zamal, was recovered from the second floor of a six storied-building named ‘Ayesha Mamtaj Mahal’ on Sunday. Following the murder incident victim’s father filed a case with Akbar Shah Police Station. The injury marks on her neck and face triggered suspicion that she was raped before murder, said police officials.
