Centuries by Imrul Kayes (118) and Tushar Imran (148 not out) provided Prime Bank South Zone a paltry 21-run lead against BCB North Zone on the close of the third day in the third round fixture of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi yesterday.
Finally, Prime Bank South Zone in their first innings had scored 429 for eight in response to BCB North Zone’s first innings total 408. At the Khulna’s Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, Islami Bank East zone are in good position against Walton Central Zone as the latter managed to score 352 for seven following East Zone’s record first class total of 735 for six declared.
North vs South
South Zone resumed third day at 125-2 and added 304 on the board at exchange of six wickets. Imrul Kayes pulled together 143 runs with Tushar Imran for the third wicket stand that laid the foundation. Kayes, who struck a century at a time while he was dropped out of the team for his finger injury, converted his overnight 58 to hundred. He brought up his 16th first class century. Before being bowled, Kayes cracked 118 off 131 with 14 boundaries and six sixes.
After Kayes’ exit, Tushar Imran took the charge on his shoulder and attempted to stretch the total with his fellow batsmen. The 35-year-old batsman, who recently made a record by accumulating 10,000 first-class runs as the first Bangladesh player, hit a successful 84-run with Al Amin Junior for the fifth wicket. National discard pace bowler Shaiful Islam broke the well-set stand when Al Amin was four runs shy of his half-century.
Tushar, thereafter, tried to widen the total further by cobbling together the innings and took a measly lead before the bails were drawn for the fourth and final day.
Resuming at overnight 23, Tushar put up his 26th first class century, the highest number of century in Bangladesh perspective. He finally was at stumps on 146.
Fast bowler Shafiul Islam and spinner Taijul Islam evenly shared the bulk of the fallen wickets between them. Shafiul claimed three for 54, whilst Taijul grabbed three for 136.
East vs Central
Walton Central Zone fell into Sohag Gazi’s spinning onslaught to resume the third day at 40-1. Sohag picked up five-wicket haul for 106.
Rokibul Hasan paired a couple of useful stand to make a resistance. Rokibul hit 97 with Marshal Ayub for the fourth-wicket and another 122 with Shuvagata Hom for the fifth wicket stand that crossed 300-run mark.
The trio brought up his fifty-plus score before their departure. Rokibul clatterd 85, while Shuvagata 73 and Marshal 65.
