The record is as if synonymous with the name of Tamim Iqbal, the swashbuckling opener of Bangladesh team. Little by little Tamim is taking Bangladesh cricket coupled with his own performance to a new height with his imperious form.
Tamim burst into record book by making two accomplishments in Mirpur yesterday what he did as the first-ever Bangladesh player. Before being caught behind, he cracked his 76 off 105 with the help of half-dozen boundary.
Before the match against Zimbabwe at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), Tamim was 42 runs away from being highest scorer in a single venue what Sri Lanka’s legendry batsman Sanat Jayasuriya kept his belt since so many years.

Two other batsmen from Bangladesh including Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim are now in the top 10 list. The duo is following Tamim suits to leapfrog the other record-holders. Shakib placed fourth and Mushfiq seventh in the list.
Besides Tamim, Jayasuriya, Shakib and Mushfiq, Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq (2464), Shakib Al Hasan (2369), Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar (2179), Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (2156), Mushfiqur Rahim (2153), Australia’s Ricky Ponting (2108), Zimbabwe’s Brendon Taylor (1889) and Zimbabwe’s Hamilton Masakadza (1860) are in the list.
Along with that, the 28-year-old south-paw inserted his name as the newest member of the 6,000-run elite club. He is the first Bangladesh batsman to write his name into the 18-man club..
Before the match, he was shy of 66 runs to enter into the record of 6,000 runs in one-day international cricket.
Graeme Smith (SA) topped the 6000-run elite club with 6989 runs. Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik (6975) closely followed Smith with New Zealand Ross Taylor (6963). Australia Michael Bevan (6912), South Africa Gary Kirsten (6798), Zimbabwe Andy Flower (6786), West Indies Sir Vivian Richards (6721), Sri Lanka Upul Tharanga (6685), Zimbabwe Grant Flower (6571), Pakistan Ijaz Ahmed (6564), Australia Alen Border (6524), India Rohit Sharma (6424), West Indies Robin Richardson (6248), Australia Mathew Hayden (6133), Pakistan Mohammad Hafeez (6107), New Zealand Brendon McCullum (6083) and Australia Dean Jones (6068) are the credible 18-member elite club.
Tamim reached his 600-run feat by playing less number of matches than Shoaib Malik, Andy Flower, Grant Flower, Upul Tharanga, Brendon McCullum, Mohammad Hafeez, Richie Richardson, Alen Border, Ijaz Ahmed, Michael Bevan and Ross Taylor.
India masterclass batsman Sachin Tendulkar dominated the chart of the one-day international with the highest 18,426 runs. Overall, Tamim is the 55th batsman with 6010 runs in one-day international cricket.
